Very Exciting News (and Some Tears)

Launching unPRESCRIBED — and why the people you love may be the most underrated pillar of a healthy life.

Very exciting news (and some tears)

Welcome to the very first issue of my rebranded newsletter, unPRESCRIBED. If you are have been here for years or just arrived, this is where I will share with you all the interesting things I see during the week, as well as the content I create. I explain a little bit more about it here.

If you have any recommendations, questions, feedback, whatever it is, feel free to reply to this e-mail.

Dose of the week

The highlight of this week was certainly my post about enjoying life, our beloved ones, and the precious time we spend with them - because we never know when will be the last time.

I wrote a very emotional story with my son Luca that was seen by over 200,000 people. (post)

In the comments, I was asked how did I come up with 95%. The truth is that it is an estimated average and it varies depending on many different factors, including cultural differences.

In my case,I left my parents’ home when I was 18 and moved to a different city to begin my medical training. Today, I live 5,000 miles from them and see them in person twice per year.

Thankfully, we have video calls that make us feel closer. But I know friends who are over 40 and still live a few blocks away from their parents.

Whatever your situation, the key is valuing the people you love. Social connection is one of the fundamental pillars of a healthy life.

Book recommendation

The story above was inspired by the book The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom. A best seller that I am currently reading and highly recommend. We tend to think of wealth as just financial success. Money is awesome, I love it too. But the fact that I have much more money today than I ever had in my life certainly does not make me happier. I am just as happy as I ever was.

In Portuguese we also have the saying that “Money can’t buy happiness”. Which is true AFTER you get to a comfortable level of income. The key, truly is the balance between Social, Mental, Physical, Financial, and Time Wealth. The proposed five types of wealth.

Dr. Mike! Natural Remedies that actually work

Well, if you don’t know Dr. Mike, he is one the most influential doctors in the world right now. He has been doing an amazing work for public health for several years. Yes, I am a big fan. And well, this past week, I was invited to participate in one of his videos, and it turned out really nicely! Go watch it now if you haven’t and let me know your thoughts.

My dear diary

It is so interesting how uncomfortable I was writing this newsletter. Every medium has different ways of thinking about it to grab the audience’s attention and making things interesting.

When I think about a video, I think about a hook, B-rolls, transitions, Call to action, and much more. All within the story I want to tell and the timeframe of that content (think short vs long form videos, for example).

Here… I have no idea what I’m doing. I studied a lot about newsletters and do follow many amazing writers. But practice is equally important as knowledge. And for this, I just don’t have it yet.

I promise I will keep doing my best to bring you not only good information, but something that you can really read it effortlessly.

Please give me some feed back. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Remember to stay curious and keep learning.

Tchau!
